Synopsis : KLPac & the Royal Netherlands Embassy will be showcasing two contemporary dance performances, Angin and Kamu/Jij.

Angin is a 30 minute contemporary dance solo which will be performed by Singaporean-born, Amsterdam based dancer Ming Wei Poon. This piece was originally created in 2001 during Emperor Akihito?s visit to the Netherlands, which caused resistance among the Dutch-Indonesian citizen and ended in fierce demonstrations.

It was originally the result of a collaboration between Japanese dancer Shintaro O-Ue and Dutch-Indonesian choreographer Gerard Mosterd attempting to break the historical tension between the Dutch and the Japanese caused by the war. This autobiographical dance research alternates between Asian and Western images and movements.

Kamu/Jij is a 60 minute choreographed performance that will feature 5 dancers, 5 mosquito nets and a video beamer. It recently premiered in the Netherlands and deals with two-sided morals in the Indonesian community. It is a personal comment on a recent Indonesian law that is in the works which proposes to severely punish any public displays of human affection such as kissing. The performance contains the unique projection of translated ancient Javanese sensual Kakawin poems, done to remind people of a simpler time when such laws were more relaxed.

The concept and choreography of this dance was done by Gerard Mosterd. Jacqueline Algra was the Dramaturgy advisor and the performers include, Wendel Spier, Thao Nguyen, Loes Ruizeveld, Ederson Rodriguez Xavier and Ming Wei Poon.
